Microamp Redefines Tactical Communications with High-Bandwidth, Low-Signature 5G Networks at SOF Week 2026

Written by Microamp | May 22, 2026 1:14:59 PM

Microamp, a pioneer in resilient, mission-critical communications, has successfully concluded its high-impact participation at SOF Week 2026 in Tampa, Florida. Held on May 18–21, the premier global gathering for the Special Operations Forces (SOF) community served as the perfect launchpad for Microamp to demonstrate how it is rewriting the rules of battlefield connectivity.

Throughout the event, Microamp addressed one of the most critical challenges in modern electronic warfare: the traditional trade-off between high-performance data transmission and operator stealth. By showcasing its advanced 5G mmWave tactical "bubbles," Microamp proved that distributed military units can maintain massive bandwidth without exposing their coordinates to the enemy.

Securing the Tactical Edge: Resilient LPI/LPD Connectivity

In highly contested environments, traditional omnidirectional radio frequency (RF) systems routinely put operators at risk by broadcasting detectable signatures. Microamp’s presence at SOF Week focused heavily on bridging this operational gap through networks optimised for Low Probability of Intercept (LPI) and Low Probability of Detection (LPD).

Microamp's tactical networks delivered key operational capabilities during the event:

  • Contested Environment Resilience: Purpose-built to resist jamming, electromagnetic interference, and electronic warfare tactics.
  • Low-Signature Footprint: Utilises highly directional, adaptive communications to protect distributed teams from electronic detection.
  • Rapidly Deployable 5G Bubbles: Secure, private networks capable of supporting real-time Command and Control (C2), high-definition Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR), and AR/VR training.
  • Mission-Ready Versatility: Fully compliant with STANAG 5665 standards, ensuring seamless integration with military-grade encryption and versatile deployment across drones, vehicles, and autonomous platforms.

Live Demonstration: "Communicate Without Being Seen"

The absolute highlight of the week took place on Wednesday, May 20, at the SOF Solutions Stage - SOF Week’s premier platform for innovation and thought leadership. Microamp delivered a packed-house live product demonstration titled: “Communicate Without Being Seen: High-Bandwidth, Low-Signature Networks for SOF.”

The live presentation featured Microamp’s mmWave LPI/LPD solution operating seamlessly with a live-connected observation drone. The demonstration offered proof-of-concept for how next-generation defence teams can securely connect sensors, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and command elements without relying on vulnerable legacy wireless infrastructure.

"Modern SOF operations demand low-signature communication, and our live demonstrations proved that the trade-off between performance and stealth is officially a thing of the past. We are incredibly proud to drive the future of mission-focused tactical communications and to deliver the digital edge directly to the frontline."

Redefining Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) Operations

By combining a low-signature footprint with multi-gigabit throughput, Microamp highlighted three critical use cases for modern drone deployment:

  • Persistent Command & Control (C2): Providing stable, continuous connectivity with large observation drones via mast-mounted or tethered setups to seamlessly extend network reach.
  • Precision Remote Operation: Delivering the ultra-low latency control links required for the precise remote operation of UAVs in highly contested spectrums.
  • Real-Time ISR Pipelines: Enabling high-throughput transmission of high-resolution video and multi-source sensor data directly to tactical units for immediate, real-time battlefield coordination.

Driving the Future of Defence with NATO DIANA

Operating from booth 5610 in Accelerator Alley, the Microamp technical team remained at the center of high-energy discussions throughout the two-day event. Microamp’s participation was further elevated by its collaboration with NATO DIANA (Defence Innovation Accelerator for the North Atlantic), reinforcing the company's alignment with allied defence priorities and emerging technology benchmarks.

About SOF Week

SOF Week is the premier annual conference and exposition for the international Special Operations Forces (SOF) community. Jointly supported and co-sponsored by U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) and the Global SOF Foundation (GSOF), the event serves as the definitive global gathering point for over 19,000 special operators, government officials, policymakers, and defence industry leaders.

Held annually at the Tampa Convention Center in Tampa, Florida, SOF Week is a critical hub for connection and alignment. The multi-day program bridges the gap between industry innovation and operational necessity, providing a trusted environment to explore cutting-edge defence capabilities, share operational lessons, and strengthen international partner-nation collaboration.
