Microamp and Druid Software have successfully completed joint validation of 5G LAN capability combining Microamp’s CellBox Air 5G mmWave gNodeB with Druid’s Raemis™ 5G core platform to enable full 5G LAN functionality within an industrial private 5G network. The testing confirms that enterprises can extend traditional Ethernet-based LAN environments over a secure private 5G mmWave network enabling deterministic, low-latency wireless connectivity without re-architecting existing industrial systems.
5G LAN, defined within 3GPP standards, allows Ethernet frames to traverse a 5G network while maintaining native Layer 2 Ethernet characteristics. In practical terms, industrial devices and control systems communicate over private 5G as if physically connected via Ethernet — while gaining the flexibility, mobility and resilience of cellular infrastructure.
The joint validation demonstrated seamless end-to-end Layer 2 connectivity across a fully private 5G deployment. Existing VLAN structures and traffic segmentation were maintained across the wireless domain, ensuring compatibility with established enterprise and industrial network architectures. The result is a high-performance wireless infrastructure supporting a traditional LAN but with the security, coverage and control associated with private cellular.
The adoption of mmWave technology is essential for verticals such as advanced manufacturing and smart logistics, which rely on the demanding applications. Microamp 5G mmWave stands as the premier solution for wireless connectivity in Operational Technology (OT), providing the specialized infrastructure required for modern industrial environments. The Microamp system enables the construction of end-to-end networks that deliver ultra-high capacity and near-zero latency. It is specifically through the integration of 5G LAN that these mission-critical applications can be fully realized, providing the high-speed, reliable connectivity necessary for real-time industrial operations.
“5G mmWave is a cornerstone connectivity layer for next-generation industrial systems. Our customers see high value in this technology and want to integrate it seamlessly with their existing Ethernet infrastructure in OT. Together with Druid, Microamp demonstrated a fully functional 5G LAN and proved its operational readiness to support real-world industrial use cases. This validation shows how enterprises can transition from wired to secure wireless networks without sacrificing reliability."
Dawid Kuchta, CEO at Microamp
For industrial organisations advancing automation and digitalisation, this capability is significant. Robotics, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), automated guided vehicles (AGVs) and time-sensitive industrial applications demand predictable performance and secure traffic handling. Conventional Wi-Fi solutions can struggle to provide deterministic behaviour at scale. 5G LAN introduces managed mobility, traffic isolation and policy-driven control within a standards-based framework designed for mission-critical environments.
“5G LAN bridges the gap between traditional LAN environments and private 5G. By combining Microamp’s mmWave gNodeB with Raemis™, we have demonstrated a solution that delivers Ethernet simplicity alongside cellular-grade resilience and security. This is a foundational capability for industrial transformation."
Tadhg Kenny, President of Strategic Global Partnerships at Druid Software
The companies will continue working together to support enterprise pilots and deployments across manufacturing, logistics, utilities and other sectors where deterministic wireless connectivity and secure network control are essential.
